Waste Watchers
Waste Watchers is a small working group made up of passionate volunteers who work with the City to help reduce our waste, and to increase re-use and recycling.
Waste Watchers developed as a collaboration and partnership with the City of Rockland. When it comes to City policy regarding our waste management—or policy in general—it can be challenging for the City to find the time and ability to engage in meaningful dialogue, education and development of policy without the assistance of residents who are passionate about the subject matter.
This core group of volunteers who meet with Rockland Public Services Director are passionate about reducing our cities waste through diversion, composting, recycling and reuse.
Some sample Waste Watcher projects:
conducting trash Audits to obtain accurate data about what is in our waste stream
understanding how our transfer station is organized and maintained
weighing in on future plans for transfer station updates and renovations
weighing in on waste management contracts, providing feedback and conducting educational campaigns to inform the public regarding decisions
